FA Cup final prediction - let the World Cup countdown begin
So the English football season ends today. Sorry all you Blackpool, Cardiff, Swindon, Charlton, Huddersfield, Millwall, Aldershot, Rotherham, Morecambe, Dagenham and Redbridge, Oxford and York fans. At the highest level, come 5pm at Wembley all thoughts will turn to the World Cup. This is a precursor to my first blog, which will follow this afternoon's FA Cup final, and will signal the start of the countdown to South Africa. Some would say a long-winded, convoluted build up. But it is the greatest show on earth! Wembley's big event just shows how global football is in the modern era, with a vast number of the players on show looking forward to taking part in the summer's action. Players from England, Serbia, Ghana, Portugal, Germany, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Brazil, France, South Africa and Algeria will be praying injury will stay away so they can perform on the biggest stage. And how many different nationalities would have been looking forward to heading to Italy in 1990, England's best performance aside from winning it at home, when Manchester United played Crystal Palace? The answer is two - England and Scotland! What a difference 20years makes! So to my prediction to round of the English football season at the highest level - my heart says Portsmouth will sneak it 1-0, and Avram will 'do a Mourinho' and celebrate in front of the Chelsea fans. I mean, you'd want revenge if you got sacked after being one kick from winning the Champions League. But my head says, with Chelsea one game away from their first double, regularly scoring seven or eight goals a game, and with Drogba, Lampard and Malouda on song - there's only one outcome really! I'm going to say 3-0 Chelsea, with two from Drogba and one from Malouda. So tune in tonight to see how wrong I have been!
